The SIRCO Sampler product line offers a wide variety of options for using a composite water sampler to take automatic samples of water. The composite method of sampling differs from the grab method in that, instead of a single sample being taken, a composite water sampler can take multiple samples over time. This saves time and money for situations where multiple samples are needed.

The samples are drawn in through the metering chamber and dropped into a single container, or, for discrete water samplers, the water is dropped into one of many containers, and then the distributor arm will move to the next container for the subsequent sample.

The SIRCO Sampler product line has a number of options for sample programming:

  • Composite water sampler (sampling into one large container);
  • Discrete water sampler (sampling into multiple bottles, one sample in each);
  • Multi-composite water sampler (sampling multiple times into each bottle before moving on to the next bottle).

Selecting a Composite Water Sampler for Specific Needs

The type of composite water sampler needed for a specific project depends on a number of important factors: does the sample need to be refrigerated (i.e. kept at 4ºC)? Will a portable sampler be necessary? Will the kind of testing require multiple bottles or a single bottle? Is the type of plastic important to the test? Is glass or polypropylene necessary? How large of a sample size is necessary?

Using the nomograph on our cut sheets, the particular water sampler and its features can be selected. To read more about each individual sampler, go to the water samplers tab.

Portable samplers are useful for situations where there is no permanent structure for the sampler to sit in, or sampling will only occur on a periodic basis. In these cases, SIRCO offers three different models for a variety of needs. The PVS 4100 is a rugged portable with large battery and pump, able to sample even 250 feet away, but heavier than the others. The 4100 is available as either a discrete or composite water sampler. The PVS 4120 is a lightweight brother to the 4100, with the capability for discrete or composite water sampler, depending on requirements. The PVS 4150 is in an easy-to-transport case, with wheels and telescoping handle. A useful sampler for quick transport.

Stationary samplers are for locations where there is a permanent liquid source that needs to be sampled from, e.g. influent and effluent. If a stationary sampler is desired, it is possible to have a refrigerated sampler, to keep the sample water at 4ºC (39ºF). This is critical for testing BOD or COD in any water source. Most indoor applications do not require a full enclosure, so an indoor water sampler will suffice. The CVS 4200 is SIRCOs indoor water sampler, available as either a discrete or composite water sampler. For outdoor applications, the BVS 4300 is the best choice, featuring a powder-coated steel enclosure, and the options of heater and insulation for cold-weather applications. The BVS 4300 has a temperature range of -40C to 50C (-40ºF to 122ºF) if it has the heater and insulation.

All of the SIRCO composite water sampler units come equipped with a vacuum-pump, metering chamber, and 25 feet of intake tubing, with a sinker. Many additional options are available. For pricing, please visit the quote request page.
